Your business exists to serve you — not the other way around. Yet many owners find themselves working harder and enjoying it less. The average person spends 40,000 hours at work over their lifetime and life is simply too short to be stuck doing things we don’t enjoy.
Success looks different for everyone, but clarity is the foundation. When you know exactly what you want, you can build a business that delivers it.
Here are five questions to shape your vision for the next 12 months:
- Who do you need to be right now?
Shift your mindset from “when I have X, then I’ll do Y” to “if I act like the person I want to become, I’ll create the results I want.” Start behaving in line with that person today. - What do you love doing — inside and outside of work?
Identify the activities that energise you. Then, be honest about the tasks you dislike and consider how you can delegate or systemise them to free up time. - How much time will you commit to what you love?
Write down the number of hours per week you’ll dedicate. Block them in your calendar now and tell someone who can hold you accountable. - What breaks will you take?
Be specific about holidays or time off — where, when, and for how long. Schedule them in advance to ensure they happen. - What income do you need to support this life?
Write down the figure. Don’t worry about the “how” just yet. Clarity comes first; planning comes later.
When you answer these questions, you create a personal plan that becomes your benchmark for decision-making. Make it visible. Share it. And start aligning your business with the life you want.
